Electrical Motors (LV / HV) Checklist

  1. Check name plate, labelling, ID tags and warning signs correct to drawings / data sheets and rotation plate fitted.
  2. No mechanical damage and no oil leakage.
  3. Cable termination, route condition, terminal box and glanding correct.
  4. Holding down bolts fitted correctly.
  5. Confirm Rogowski coils/CT/surge arrestors are installed and connected correctly.
  6. Without dismantling of motor check oil rings, oil levels, grease packing and bearings.
  7. Check free rotation with driven equipment uncoupled.
  8. Where fitted, perform visual inspection of:
    • Winding temperature detector connections.
    • Air temperature detectors and connections.
    • Bearing temperature indicators and connections.
    • Vibration monitors and connections.
    • Condensation detector and connections.
  9. Check that motor is correctly earthed. Record Motor to earth continuity. (______________Ω)
  10. Inspect stator winding connection. (Star or Delta)
  11. Check terminal boxes/seals and terminals for damage and moisture ingress.
  12. Motor Heater resistance. (______________Ω)
  13. Motor Heater IR. (______________)
  14. Motor Winding resistance. (______________Ω)
  15. Motor Winding IR. (______________)
  16. Thermistor or RTD IR. (______________MΩ)
  17. Bearing IR. (______________MΩ)
  18. Personnel protection i.e. coupling guards are installed.
  19. Confirm heaters correctly installed, measure & record insulation resistance. (______________ MΩ)
  20. Warning signs correctly installed and visible.
  21. Installation drawings have been “Red Lined” as per the Project Completions Procedure.
